Specification draft · v0

Motion that answers back.

interanimate is a motion and interaction framework for the web, written as a specification. It treats animation and input as one system: the person moves the interface, and the interface moves in response, continuously, interruptibly, and only when it helps.

Three pillars

01

Respond

The interface answers within 100 ms, on the press rather than the release. Motion never delays the result someone asked for.

02

Continue

Nothing jumps, restarts, or waits. Interrupted motion carries on from its current position and velocity, and anything moving can be grabbed.

03

Respect

Restraint is the default and expression is earned. Reduced-motion behavior is part of every intent, and no author choice can override it.

Everything that moves is a value

A person moves values through an interaction; a motion moves them on its own. Control passes between the two without a seam. Five layers build on that.

Most product code only needs intents. Every lower layer stays available when it doesn't.
